The Post-Obama World by Dr. P-J
Do you remember during the primaries when I kept saying, “It is either Bernie now or Donald later”? What bitter fruit – to be proven right. So now the anti-science party rules Congress and the White House, I get to say “I told you so.”
This major setback to Progressivism makes me queasy. Racism, sexism, nativism, fascism, masculine hegemony, bullying, uninformed opinions passing as facts, all become typical and accepted aspects of our lives. Climate change is a hoax perpetuated by the weather channel; coal is good; we hate Mexicans and Mexican-Americans; and we fear Muslims. We do not know that immigrants (documented and otherwise) from south of the border come from many different countries . . . they are all Mexicans. These uniformed/horrible beliefs have been validated by our national election. To the world, we are a banana republic run by a tin-pot blow-hard. It is difficult to find a positive path after such a stunning defeat of rational thought.
One positive idea – the TPP will probably die in the shallow grave where it now idles. That is one hopeful notion. I cannot think of another.

Action ideas:
- Build your progressive community locally. Find ways to act locally, by running for local office/supporting local progressives or by working on local issues such as blocking the use of Round-Up by your local government or building support for $15 NOW.
- If you have the means – go to the site of the DAPL protests.
- Continue to agitate against the TPP.

Time is running out. Time to think harder.
Do you understand the science of climate change? The Republican Party doesn't even BELIEVE it's a real thing.
There are two realistic choices in this election and they are Republican and Democratic. Local, State, National - it's the Democratic Party all the way.
Don't kid yourself. Your vote matters. Vote for Mother Earth - Vote Democratic.
Then brace yourself for the next challenge - blocking the TPP in the Lame Duck Congress.
